St Jean to Roncevelles

Third go at this.  I can't publish anything with photos it just seems to get stuck.  Even though they are shrunk.

Yesterday was a tough day 21km climb to go top of the Col de Lepoeder climbed to1450m.  Then a very steep descent for about 4k.  The day took about 10 hours.

We had already booked accomodation at  la Possada  a lovely old hotel built in 1625 with 1.5m thick walls.  A hotel was a much better idea than a reugio with 100 beds in a dormitory after such a hard day.  We will be staying in a refugio tonightmthough.

Last night we had the pilgrims menu which started with pasta followed by a whole small trout skin on deep fried with chips.  I don't eat fish but gave it a go and it was quite nice.  Followed by a tub of ceme carame.  There were 2 bottles of wine to share with the 8 people on our table.

Fuzz was surprised that the cost of a wine and a beers was only 4 euro.  It is a shame we were too tired for partying and fell into bed and were asleep in moments.  Jet lag is still a problem and I have been up since 4am.  Breakfast isn't served here until 8am so I am hanging out for a cup of tea.

Todays hike is 22km to Zubiri.  Mostly down hill with some climbs the last 4 km is a very steep descent.

  1. Hi Kay, Hope you get the photos sorted out, would be great to see some of you guys and the places you are seeing.
Did they have the wine ratio backwards, should have been 8 bottles for 2 people after a hard days walk.
How are the feet holding up ?
You might need to work out some sort of pre-breakfast snack for each day.
If you are still getting jet lag try bright light therapy eg. no sunnies during the day.
    All the best
    A
